New AGE.. argh!
This is the age where women start cringing about their age; especially when there are guys harping about it being a single digit closer to age 30.
But I don’t feel old. In fact I feel that I’ve increased my randomness (which is bad I think, means the junk that floats by in my head have increased by.. I hope not 365 times).
Here’s one,
this year, I want to be happy. just happy

Tried my hand at risotto today except I don’t know why but I haven’t quite got an appetite these days. coupled with my 6 hours of sleep per day I think I’m turning into BIONIC WOMAN. woo~
and I’ve been watching Prison Break everyday (what is wrong with me) and listening to the same list of songs on repeat (there’s definitely something wrong with me) when I’m suppose to be studying. and I shall stop talking lest I start crapping on my blog.

you know why I can do the above?
because after I painstakingly typed the previous blogpost with my thumbs on my steel keypad, my LAN port DECIDES TO WORK!
Can you believe I also typed a long email as well on my phone. My fingers are numb and they need to do this

Argh I had to retype this because I switched apps to read my messages and when I switched back, you guessed it..blank. And I’m typing with my phone because my LAN port-well I don’t know what’s with it. PMS kot. -_-
so living up to my old name of sms queen, Remember Oliver wrote about the Golden Rule?
“Golden Rule : whoever has the gold makes the rules.
.. But Malaysia is one of the places where it is clearest that it isn’t what you know, it’s who you know.
.. It doesn’t matter how much you do or sometimes even how well you do it, it’s who you do it for that matters.”
Great piece really, left me thinking about it even during my study week. I was studying for my Strategic Planning Management paper when this hit me. (Yeah SPM in short is sort of this subject that trains me to think like a top level manager, plus they make people like me think twice about becoming a CEO of a multinational company)
Suppose people follow the Golden Rule and ass kiss the people with power to paint their future. This includes members of the organization that know that they’re not quite competent nor prepared for the job but do it anyway for the sake of an advancement in remuneration and benefits. These people exceled in ass kissing and gained promotions. More and more of this phenomena strikes and eventually the organization will become dysfunctional.
People with talent that are not bothered about office politics get shunned from promotions and eventually there’s enough monkeys in the business level or worst, corporate level to run the business. The talented bunch leaves the organization because the bereavement is too much. The monkeys glances at the notion of maximisation of shareholder’s wealth and pushes the job around so often that soon the organization is in shambles.
And seriously, if someone without a hard hand comes in to save the organization, it will in a small number of months, be running out of business. If the company happens to be a GLC then yeah, few years.
My point is, a company cannot run by itself. We cannot also expect people in the organization to be satisfied with the way the organization is managed and continue doing the same things everyday when the only thing that is constant is change.
If anyone in an organization keeps the Golden Rule in mind, they’re not thinking about the customers and the shareholders of the business, which is essentially the parties that ensure the long term survival of the company. These employees probably do not view the company as a growing concern nor do they share the strategic intent of the company.
I believe that really good companies like BMW, Boeing and Google (I’m not simply naming companies, I read their case studies) do not have an ass kissing culture (unlike what Ford had) or a strict hierarchical, bureaucratic structure. Information and talent should flow all ways in an organization. Companies who acknowledge talent should appreciate it by doing what they can to keep them.

I was thinking about Jogoya. and the people that I ideally want to be eating the buffet with and then my thoughts drifted back to the time my school classmates and I had “class party” after the exams.
I’m sure all of you had the same system, we elected a treasurer amongst us (Huey Jer was bendahari in primary school right?) and she collected don’t know how many cents from us each week. At the end of the year, we will calculate how much we have and splurge it on fast food, soft drinks and jellies. then we tapao-ed sweets :p
